Kona reflections and team places close soon..

Published over 1 year agoΒ β€’Β 2 min read

Hi Reader

I hope you're having a great day.

Did you watch The Ironman World Championships in Kona? I didn't, (it was on too late πŸ˜‚) but I did see quite a few posts from Live Feisty media about the weekend.

I've been following Live Feisty for a long time, and I love what they are doing to elevate women in Ironman races, but I also found myself feeling a little bit uncomfortable about this post with Chelsea Sodaro.

The caption was "A win for all the moms" but I'm not sure if it is "a win for all the moms". It's a win for some mums, those who have the support, and the desire to take on a challenge like Ironman, but most mums don't have that privilege. I don't want to take away from Chelsea's amazing achievement, but we also need to be aware that she probably has a lot more support than many of us.

In her words β€œThis is a real family operation, I don’t have a super big, flashy team around me, but I have an incredible team. My dad has sagged all of my rides for the last month. My mom has helped with childcare. My husband is a Reno firefighter. This is for them.”

It's great that women can compete in areas that were once only available to men, we have seen women's football take centre stage this year, along with a televised Tour De France for women (albeit a shortened version) so things are moving in the right direction, although equal pay is still not there yet. I also loved seeing the female coach celebrating with the Lions. I felt a lot of emotions watching that!

But I also am aware that we are still using a value system based on patriarchal culture, where success is defined by male values, and to be "successful" we are encouraged to enter traditionally "male" professions, and sports (Ironman?) while traditionally "female" professions and work are underpaid and undervalued.

If you want to read more on this I can recommend this book and this 15 minute article/podcast which explains what I'm getting at a lot better!

And remember that you are enough, if you're a mum, not a mum, older, younger, you have value and a place in the world.

Whatever you choose to do in your life is your path, embrace it, and enjoy the journey.

I also wanted to remind you that I'm closing the doors to my next group coaching intake (20th October) at 8pm UK time.

I won't open it up again until April, so if you want to join us, you need to act fast!

As always if you have any questions, I'm happy to chat, you can book a call below

Erika says

I find the written descriptions for the training sessions really helpful, as I get lost in all the data and numbers

I really enjoy the turbo sessions as you get the group workout motivation

The reset sessions are great, it reminds me how good it is to stretch and release the muscles and it adds something different to my week Plus encourages me to relax something I struggle to do.
